6 Ways To Get Your Life Back On Track…​ As Told By The Cast Of F.R.I.E.N.D.S

If you’re anything like me, you go through phases where you feel like nothing is going right, you’re overwhelmed, stressed out, and probably breaking out. This summer has been filled with sunny days, long nights, and countless beach trips but being on vacation and traveling can really knock you off your regular routine. These past few months I’ve been all over the place (literally and figuratively). I don’t think I’ve gone food shopping in two months and I am concerningly dehydrated. However, I’ve had so many unforgettable memories that it makes it all worth it. Now, although I still have a month left of summer (thank you quarter system), for most of you it’s back to school, back to work, or just time to get your shit together. So, if you’re at all curious as to how I get it together every couple of months, keep reading.

1. CLEAN

Clean up yoooo shit. Whenever I go on vacation or even a weekend trip, I come back to my room and my stuff quickly takes over my floor. I am a very clean person okay but that just accumulates super fast YOU KNOW? So deep clean the ef out of your place. Wipe down your counters, bleach your shower, vacuum your floor, or call your mom to do it (jk don’t do that grow up and do it yourself). A clean place is literally the first step to getting your life together. My favorite Youtube video of all time is of explaining why you should start your day, every day, by making your bed. That simple completed task at the beginning of your morning will make you have a more productive and fulfilling day. Take me for example, I made my bed this morning and here I am writing my first blog post in a month??? If that isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is.

2. STOP IGNORING YOUR BILLS (or anything else you’ve been putting off)

Adulting is hard. Especially when you have a stack of bills higher than you are – granted I am only 5’3 but like that’s still a lot of bills. Ignoring your responsibilities is just going to make you more stressed in the long run. You need to face the things you don’t want to do so that you can move forward with your life without the stress of debt and other shit that comes with being an adult.

3. GET ORGANIZED

Now that your life is clean on the outside you need to get organized on the inside. Making lists gives me a visual of what I need to get done. Sometimes I have so many things I tell myself I can’t forget that I will literally just end up on my bed watching friends. Have a checklist, a planner, or even a note on your phone to remind you of what your tasks are for that day. 

4. GO TO THE GYM

Ok, so I am still working on this one. But I finally got the membership so that counts for something. Having a routine makes every day more successful. Going to the gym or exercising outdoors can make you feel all around better. Exercise releases endorphins making you happier and less stressed, all the while making you look like your best and healthiest self.  Your self-esteem will go up, you’ll sleep better, and you’ll also increase your energy so you can do more with your days.

I’ve been using the BetterMe app which gives you workouts to do each day based on what muscles you want to work. This app will also provide you with different recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner so you’ll never fall into a boring food routine. This app does cost a little bit of money but you can try it out for a free week and see if you enjoy it – although if you do plan on doing the free week make sure you set a reminder to cancel it or you’ll have to pay $40.00 like me :-).

5. EAT GOOOOOD

You don’t need to diet or restrict yourself from foods you enjoy but going to the grocery store and stocking up on fruits, veggies, and healthy snacks will help divert from going out to eat for every meal (McDonald’s) and making poor meal decisions that won’t help you out in the long run (McDonald’s). Personally, I usually do intermittent fasting which means I eat from 2pm-10pm and fast for the rest of the time. This helps me control what I am eating and when I’m eating it. I never feel like I am starving and feel so much better in my body when I am doing IF. It’s hard to stick to it when you’re on vacation but I can’t wait to get back to it.

6. SELF-CARE

One of the most important things to get back on track is making sure that you’re taken care of. So go get that massage off Groupon, a mani-pedi, that new dress you’ve been eyeing. Or, if you can’t afford that, make your house your salon – sheet masks, mani-pedi kits, and bath bombs are the closest to affordable heaven you can get. Getting your life back together after vacation is all about self-care, or doing things that you don’t particularly want to do. But I wanted to include this specifically because we all deserve to relax and wind down.
